Happy Friday

Happy Friday! Here is a small collection of things from the internet that I’ve enjoyed or discovered this week, that I’d like to share…

Did you see the total eclipse this week? TBH, I didn’t realize what a big deal it is to experience a total eclipse from the path of totality. I didn’t realize that for a few minutes, day becomes night, and I definitely didn’t realize how gorgeous the eclipse itself was (here’s a tweet of an amazing photo).

People who experience the eclipse from areas in the path of totality describe it as a life-changing experience. If, like me, you didn’t travel out to the path of totality to experience this year’s eclipse, the next total eclipse will be April 8, 2024 and will travel from Texas to Maine (here’s a link to an article with a map of the next path of totality, and an explanation of how scientists figure it out).

Also, I loved this: eclipses that marked monumental moments in history.

You know how we (women) talk a lot about changing the way we speak in order to be taken more seriously in professional settings? Here’s an article – “Can We Just, Like, Get Over the Way Women Talk?” – that literally says that engaging with all the advice for how women should speak differently to be taken seriously “is just one more way of telling powerful women to shut up you bitch.” (Thanks Priya for pointing to that line).

Also, in other politics-of-language news, here’s an amazing twitter thread that beautifully explains the issue with the #NotAllMen / #NotAllWhitePeople stance (h/t Sandhya).

Have you seen the video for the song “1-800-273-8255” by Logic, Alessia Cara, and Khalid? It’s so, so, so good. (And here’s an article discussing how the song is a powerful anti-suicide anthem).

Here’s a compelling argument for installing a bidet. (Here’s one you can install yourself. You’re welcome.)

Do you watch Game of Thrones? Tormund’s exchange with The Hound was my favorite part of this week’s episode.

Also, the best quote of the week:

“Find you a man who talks about you the way Tormund talks about Brienne of Tarth.”
Mindy Kaling

I’ll try to update this blog with “favorites” from the week every Friday morning if I can. If you come across something cool, please share it with me on twitter (@punitarice)! Tomorrow, we’ll talk “Mom Guilt,” and next week, we’ll talk about life before parenthood, and sex with robots!

What things from the internet did you find or like this week? If you’d like to share, please leave a comment!
